Portuguese Language and Culture Course Portuguese – B1 (Independent Level)
This course is designed to provide the participants with speaking, reading and writing practice and to improve their overall proficiency in Portuguese language in a dynamic and communicative way, through individual, pair and group work.
Main objectives
• Understand the main issues when clear, standardised language is used and the subjects are familiar to him/her (topics discussed at work, at school and during leisure time, etc.).
• Deal with most situations encountered in the region where the target language is spoken.
• Produce simple, coherent speech on subjects that are familiar or of personal interest.
• Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions, as well as briefly give reasons and justifications for an opinion or a project.
Specific objectives
LISTENING:
• Understand the main points of a spoken sequence on current affairs at work, school, leisure, etc.;
• Understand the main points of many radio and television programmes on current affairs or subjects of personal or professional interest, when the rate of speech is relatively slow and clear.
SPEAKING:
• Articulate expressions in a simple way to describe experiences and events, dreams, desires and ambitions;
• Explain or justify opinions and plans;
• Telling a story;
• Tell the plot of a book or film;
• Describe their reactions.
SPOKEN INTERACTION:
• Dealing with most of the situations that can arise when travelling to a place where the language is spoken;
• Engage, without prior preparation, in a conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or relevant to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travelling and current affairs).
WRITING:
• Write a simply articulated text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest;
• Writing personal letters to describe experiences and impressions.
READING:
• Understand texts in which everyday or work-related language predominates;
• Understand descriptions of events, feelings and desires in personal letters.

Methodology
The course methodology will ensure the active involvement of the participants in all phases, that is, prior, during and after the delivery of the course. More specifically, upon confirmation that the course will take place, the participants will receive preparatory material (if needed), which will cover all important concepts to be presented during the delivery of the course. The participants will have the opportunity to exchange feedback with the organiser of the course and the trainer as well as to request any clarification related to the content of the course.
The methodology of the training is based on a combination of three important elements:
• Provision of knowledge required (theory)
• Use of training tools, such as case studies, videos, games, animations & exercises (practice – hands on experience)
• Feedback/reflection (review)
During the delivery of the course, the participants will receive hard copy material, which will cover the content to be presented in all five (5) days of the course. The material will be presented in a form of Power Point (PPT) presentations, videos & animations. Moreover, the active involvement of the participants will be secured through various training tools, such as case studies, worksheets, scenarios & exercises. These training tools are necessary to ensure that the theoretical knowledge gained by the participants can be used in real life scenarios; an important aspect & added value for any training course.
At the final day of the course, the participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the information received and the experience gained in the specific field of study.
