The logistics function is essential to the sustained development of organisations, being widely recognised at the highest levels of company management as a decisive factor for success. Logistics is a challenging, global science that touches all areas of our lives. We all know its importance for the functioning of the global economy, being a sector of activity with growing importance, both in terms of job opportunities and in terms of turnover. In the context of globalization, logistics is one of the modern management tools which is most capable of ensuring competitiveness for organizations in the face of the process of opening up to international markets.

Objectives
At the end of the course the trainees will be able to:
 • Know the origin and concepts associated with Logistics and Supply Chain Management;
 • Know the evolution of Logistics and SCM over time;
 • Understand the Supply Chain Management concept;
 • Distinguish the difference between Supply Chain and logistics;
 • Identify and distinguish the different activities associated with logistics and Supply Chain;
 • Validate the importance of information integration in Logistics and Supply Chain Management activities;
 • Identify the different types of units and means of transport used in Logistics;
 • Identify the different operational metrics and performance indicators, knowing how to construct them, to be used in Logistics and Supply Chain management.

Expositive method, interrogative method, active method (online dynamics, group games in an online environment) Classes are didactically structured to facilitate the creation of knowledge and the development of competencies and skills.

Day 1: Module 1 – What is Logistics? And Supply Chain Management?
 • Group Introduction / (icebreaker exercise)
 • Origin, concepts, definition and mission of Logistics.
 • Intervenients in the logistic process: Who does what? Technical terminologies.
 • Introduction to Logistics and Supply Chain Management;
 • Logistics versus Supply Chain Management: what are the differences;
 • Evolution of Logistics and SCM;
 • Trends in Logistics and Supply Chain Management;
 • The growing importance of Supply Chain Management
Day 2: Module 2 – Supply Chain Activities
 • Activities inherent to the Supply Chain;
 • Primary and secondary activities, identification and its importance.
 • Role played by the different activities of the Supply Chain.
Day 3: Module 3 – Logistics Handling Units and Transport Management
 • The importance of Units in Logistics;
 • Types of Logistical Handling Units.
 • Types of Transport in Logistics;
 • Aspects to take into account when choosing the type of transport;
 • Agents involved in the transport of goods and merchandise;
 • Transport Management in the supply chain.
Day 4: Module 4 – Creating Value through Logistics and Supply Chain Management
 • Key Issues in creating value through Logistics and Supply Chain Management;
 • Current Challenges in Supply Chain Management;
 • The importance of information integration in LSCM
Day 5: Module 4 – continuation
 • Operational Metrics versus Performance Indicators (KPI);
 • The importance of measuring operations in Logistics and Supply Chain Management;
 • Debrief and Evaluation.
